Program Description From recruitment and selection to training and development, a career in human resources (HR) requires a focus on both strategy and people. Skill, knowledge and ability in human resource planning, occupational health and safety, compensation, labour relations and managerial accounting enable HR professionals to contribute to business success in an increasingly competitive global marketplace while looking after the organization’s most important asset – its employees. For those students who wish to pursue a designation from the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA), this program includes the nine courses required by HRPA. Students who receive an average grade of 70 per cent in these courses and maintain a minimum grade of 65 per cent in each course, meet the coursework requirements to write the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam – a significant step towards becoming a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) in Ontario. NOTE: Students enrolling in this program are required to purchase their own laptop. Human resources (HR) professionals serve as strategic partners in today’s business environment. They work closely with management colleagues throughout all levels of a company on a variety of project-based and proactive initiatives. Many roles are performed by HR professionals including: Developing and implementing company policies and procedures Delivering HR-related programs and services Giving advice and counsel to corporate executives, line managers and employees You will experience growth in your skills, knowledge and abilities in the following areas: Compensation management Employee and labour relations HR planning Managerial accounting Occupational health and safety Organizational behaviour Performance management Recruitment and selection Training and development The Human Resources Management (HRM) graduate certificate program is designed for individuals with previous post-secondary education (a three-year college diploma or a university degree is required) or related work experience (at least three years of relevant work experience in a human resources-related role).
